Tom Tom 3 Map Update

Hello to all the wise out there from a confused newbie

I have a hp1945 running TT3, i have installed all the camera safety software and works a.ok.

My question is : is there any way i can update my maps in TT3 without actually updating to TT5?

As far as I know, the only way to upgrade the maps, is by upgrading the software ie.TT5. However, there is a thread in this forum that says you can use the TT5 maps in TT3 (but you would still be required to upgrade i'm afraid.
