European map product code

I have an IPAQ IR1710 running Navigator 4.440 - I am due to go to France in a week and as I have the European maps on CD which were in the navigation pack thought I could load these onto a spare SD card.

However I do not have a product code for the European maps - I am informed by Tom Tom support that I can only get the European maps by upgrading to TT5 which could take up to 5 weeks.

I have tried to call Tom Tom but get cut off as all their customer support representatives are busy! I am also unable to reply to their email response as the web page is constantly refreshing. Can anyone help? Is what Tom Tom are telling me true - i.e. that 4 months after buying this product I am unable to activate the European maps which were sold with it?
