TomTom upgrade gps problems...

I have an Ipaq 3970 running navigator 2 and have recently purchased navigator 5 upgrade, however seem to be suffering the same problems as others that have upgraded from 3 etc. I cannot get the GPS unit to connect to TT5 and get the same old message "No GPS device!", I have tried varoius ways of configuring the unit with no success. The GPS receiver I have is the one supplied with TT2 (small sliver gps box)

I have a Zire 72 running the navigator 5 and when i turn them on, it gives me the same message that no gps device found, and it takes approximately 5 minutes for it to receive the GPS signal......
