Default TT5 Maps

OK, time has worn on and I'm still no nearer to making a decision on whether or not to upgrade to TT5. Basically, along with a few others on this board all I want to do is to use updated maps with the excellent TT3. I would (obviously) be willing to spend the money to upgrade just for the maps as I am a registered TT3 user, so Tom Tom would get their cash. However, it appears that Tom Tom don't want to allow me to do this, which I find unacceptable given what I have read about TT5. Has anyone found a way to make TT5 maps work with TT3? I have seen the earlier post on the subject but it is ambiguous. Is there any '3rd party' software out there that can act as a 'wrapper' for the TT5 maps in the same way as the old Checkpoint and Postcode app worked?

Other than this it seems that my only options are to continue with outdated maps or to seek another navigation solution, which I don't wish to do.

Make your mind up quickly Stormlord, the offer to upgrade to TTN5 + all maps for 59 Euros expires on 1st November.

As almosthere says 'tt5 can do eveything tt3 can + lots more'.

It does take longer to lock on with TTN5. You won't need CheckPoint, just use POIEdit/POISynch for Safety Cameras. Then set your distance in yards for the distance you want the warning. Easy.

There are a few things that tomtom 5 is missing, ie set your speed and navigate to lat / lon. However, I find that tt5 is more than good value and would probably recommend it over tt3.

Ps. There is nothing better on the market at present.

with respect I only ever used lat long when i was in the merchant navy, the current gps position uses this any way as to setting speed i found this disfunctional as it interfered with display when exceedin preset speed. The removal of these functions were to the advantage i would say

I couldnt agree more 'almosthere'. I was just mentioning that these options have been removed (not that I missed them).

I must admit that since posting my first message my fears about TT5 have been dispelled. Someone I know has upgraded to TT5 and given me a demonstration. I needn't have worried. From what I've seen it looks and works perfectly. I've since applied for my upgrade at the Tom Tom website and received a confirmatory message. I hope it comes soon.

Regards to all.
