Format of Traffic Info updates for TomTom Nav 5

Hi, does anyone know the file format for the traffic updates that will work on TomTom Nav 5 and where they get stored in the Tom Tom folder.

I have a PDA (XDA) with a GPRS connection which could check at regular intervals for the latest info.

I would like to have a go at creating a file that updates from RSS/XML feeds that are already available on the web, so that I could receive them at regular intervals whilst on the move. Hopefully, that would enable a diversion/re-routing if the incident was severe enough to warrant it.

Any help much appreciated.

I don't know where the traffic info is stored on the PDA, but I've seen the response from the Traffic server (using an IP sniffer) and it all looks very binary to me...

I think it would be very tricky to decypher the traffic info if it looks anything like the response I saw.

Thanks Steve, but does anyone have a copy of an old traffic update file they could send me and details of where it was saved in their pda directory structure. I have found a file called "traffic.dat" in the map folder but it only seems to contain a header.

If anyone subscribes to the traffic update service does it provides updates constantly whilst connected and travelling, or just at timed intervals?

I think it's the Traffic.inc file you are probably more interested in. When you are subscribed to the service it's not constant updates, it periodically polls the server for updates. I haven't figured out exactly when it decides to do this - sometimes it's pretty quick, other times it can wait quite a while. I must admit, for journeys where I know where I'm going, I sit on the traffic screen, and hit the manual update quite frequently in a hope that I'll get the very latest traffic info to avoid problems.
