Default Tom Tom 5 - Slow to start

Hi,

I have installed Tom Tom 5 as an upgrade on my 2210, however when you click on the 'Tom Tom' icon on the today screen it takes 20secs to boot up.

Is this normal, or does anyone know of a way to speed this up?

Tom Tom3 was instant, and I see this as a bit of an irritant to what in whole is a good piece of kit.

I believe that this is quite normal. From startup, the quickest my tomtom will pick up is twenty seconds. The longest is approx 40 secs - 1 minute.

alot of people think its slower than tomtom 3 but on tomtom 3 you had the spinning circle when it was loading, on tt5 you dont see anything apart from the red hand on the bottom right of the today page.

7 Seconds on a Mio 168, maybe it's something to do with the different model PDA's rather than TTN5.

I am going to try and delete some of the other 3rd party items that I have (games) to see if that will improve it. I have since installed Checkpoint and also have the v.5.10 update and it is still the same.

Well I have installed the new 5.21v. At first, it would not launch the Tom Tom Navigator from my Checkpoint icon. However after a 4-5 soft resets I have eventually managed to get Tom Tom 5 working, however it now takes between 35-40 secs to start up rather than the 20 before. I have also noticed that my memory has also take a slight hit with some of the ROM and RAM being swallowed up. At first I thought that Tom Tom had put something in its new version to prevent Checkpoint working - maybe to sell there own Traffic, but all appears OK - for now!!!

My mate recently installed CheckPoint and started using it. He complained he had started having problems with his Sat Nav.

It may not be related to your problem, he has TTN3, but when I checked for programmes running in the background, it showed Tom Tom Navigator EIGHT times.

I tried deleting all, no luck, then one at a time, nope. So I did a soft reset, whilst in TN3, exited Tom Tom and closed his PDA. Waited a short while, switched on and everything was back to normal. (Except his favourites etc).

I set it so he taps on Checkpoint to start TT and exits TT to close Checkpoint.

Whether this was CheckPoint related or him being silly, I don't know, but the next few days should see if the problem comes back.

Gave checked in my programs, but only appear to have 1 x TT Navigtor.

However I do have
TomTom TomTom (guess is the 5.21 upgrade)
TomTom Navigator
TomTom Contacts Navigation
TomTom~Bluetooth Support
TomTom Voice Jane
TomTom Today
Zip
Great_Britain_Plus-Map
Great_Britain Navigation Map
TomTom Voice.

Not sure if these are all correct, or if any can be deleted.
