Unhappy TT5 & Checkpoint woes

Just upgraded from TT3 and checkpoint 3.2 to 5.21 (although TT still says v5.00) and latest cp.

Few things happen on my Dell x5 running 2002 ppc.

If TT or Cp is left running when the PDA is turned off, I get the error:

Notification ErrorCannot execute \\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\EvenWakeUpTomTom.

With regards to CP, I cannot get it to work with TT5.21. When I hit the navigate option to tie it in with TT, the PDA hangs and needs a softreset to be able to kill all the apps.

Can anyone help with these probs?

Also, few things that irk me about TT5 over TT3 so far (only be using for one day so may just be a getting used to thing).

1) every time I restart TT, I have to reset my GPS CF card. TT3 used to remember and of it went.
2) no options to associate buttons. I used to have them set for record location, go home, day/night. Where are these in v5?
3) Not being able to see/plan a route without GPS lock or GPS card inserted - why did they remove that?
4) Not being able to use the map to say "go from here to there" as in TT3.
5) The blooming map spinning round all the time when driving! Never had that in TT3. Mind you, seems to be worse on the go700 my mate has.
6) So many of the handy settings/options hidden in complicated menu system compared with TT3.
7) having to shut down TT before powering off, then restart again. a pain when stopping for quick meeting/loo break.
8) TT not remembering my CF GPS card, and having to hunt down the option in the menus

Otherwise, very very good and a vast improvement over TT3! Apart from my few grips/irks (or being unable to work out the new settings structure) I'm loving it!

Seems to be sorted now.

Uninstalled everything for Checkpoint and TT, and seems OK. TT now shows the correct version too.

Either from Active sync, or via the option under the settings menus on PPC.

Can i ask why peeps would want checkpoint?

I just looked at it and it installs in main memory, not good, but tomtom can already be setup to alert when poi's are coming.

Does it do something better than tomtom 5.21?

Im just curious thats all

Personally I'm still a fan of checkpoint.

All of the POI's I use are spot on, including the speed cameras. True TT POI's (extra charge) can do this too, but when I tested a mates who uses them on his Go they weren't all that IMO.

It doesnt do anything better I think but some people just prefer it as they are used to using it in TT3

My main reson for liking it is that you can customise audible warning on first detect, speed warning (for cameras) and a secondary warning.

My cams are set to:

*Siren* [ xmph speed/bus] Camera in 30 seconds
LIMIT is x
*Siren* [ xmph speed/bus] Camera in 10 seconds

Did try the PocketGPS ones, but personally found them lacking or inaccurate when I road tested for a week.

fair enough. Just out of interest, have you tried their free add on software that allows you to alter speed cam locations, speeds and anything else? The more people that report the errors back, the more accurate this database will be.
