Default Navigator 5 Maps

Hi - I'm a new TomTom user - I bought the system last month but haven't used it much yet to be honest.

I was going to a friends along a route I always use - the road is about 3 years old but doesn't appear to be recognised by TomTom.

So my question is - how do you update the maps? or should the road have been there in the first place? I looked on the tomtom website and the only option I can find is to buy the maps again! at 60 - odd euros. Surely that can't be right.

Can anybody help please?

Thanks

Andy

The road you are referring to may not be part of the maps that tomtom use. Teleatlas update their maps approx. every month however, as you can imagine, tomtom can not afford to re purchase the maps on a monthly basis. Navigator 5 was released May last year and the maps would then be approximately 12 months out of date. The time frame means the road should be on there. What is the name of the road and the location and I will have a look at my system to see whether it is on there (at least then you will know it is not just yours). You will have to pay for map updates from tomtom but it may be that you already have the latest version of maps available

You'd have thought TT would give you the map updates for free, and only charge for additional maps or the software.

There's an interesting report here http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/teleatlas-visit-aug05.php about the process of updating maps and getting them to the end user.

Appears that TomTom release updates each May (ish) but that it could be 12 months old when released.
