Default Tom Tom 5 cannot find built in GPS Mio 168

Hi all another newbie, ive seen lots of solutions to bluetooth gps drivers etc, but nothing on my problem. Since installing tom tom 5, tom tom has failed to use my in built gps. It shows No valid GPS signal and the blue and yellow ball is spinning. If I then plug in the optional wired GPS it works fine any ideas? Currently settings on my mio 168:
NMEA cabled GPS
baud rate 4800
Serial cable on SP2

Any ideas? it worked with both antenna no probs on TT3.
Best regards
Darren

How long have you left it trying (outside) first use pickup can take 20 minutes

I have the Mio 168 and TT 5.21 and have no problems but it does take longer to pick up the signal that it did with TT 3

Have you updated TT5? Get the 5.21 patch from www.tomtom.com and then try it.

Make sure you get a lock before driving off, otherwise your unit is trying to play 'catch up'.

If you car has a heat reflective windscreen, it's best to stand outside by your car until you get a lock. You can now set up inside and place your Mio just off centre of windscreen, which will be below the untreated part behind the rear view mirror.

A couple of other things which helps.

Start - Settings - Connections - Beam, untick the box.

Start - Settings - System - Memory - Running Programs - Stop All.

After switching Mio on, wait about 10 to 15 seconds before tapping on TomTom, and make sure your stylus/finger doesn't bounce and hit it twice.

Tap on radio bars, bottom right, then anywhere in the rectangle showing the battery/radio bar. Now Configure and try using TomTom Cable GPS.

Now go outside and wait for a while, 10, 15, 20 minutes and you should soon see the greyed out satellite bars which will change blue when you have lock.

(You may know some, or all, of this but I've detailed it so should a new user with little knowledge read the thread, it would be easy for them to follow).

That worked thanks for the help, the beam was already unticked and it was only notes running do you think that was the cause? Seems strange all the rest seemed the same. Oh well thanks again Darren

I've checked in the past and found when Calendar and Contacts are running in the background, slow lock ons can occur. The strange thing is, checking allocated memory, there's only 1MB less. Maybe 1MB is enough to make the difference when using TomTom..

Found the same thing on my X5, but also with Word/Excel running.

Maybe TT needs a specific mem address for all or part of it's processing cache which such programs occupy?
