Default TT or the PDA 'forgets' the GPS CF card

Hi.
Is it a common feature with TT, or maybe even PDA's in general, to find that after you have powered the PDA off , that next time you run TT it wont see the CF card GPS?
My GPS for TT is on a CF card - only a cheap eBay one admittedly - but I found that if I exit TT properly via the menu, and then run it again, it is OK provided the PDa has not been powered off since last time TT was run. If it has I have to do a soft re-set before TT realises I have a CF GPS.
When it has had the power off, and its not connecting, if Look in the GPS info bit on TT the little circular thing in the top right corner is not rotating, do a soft reset though, and as I've said, and all is OK.

PDA is a IPAQ HX2490 running windows Mobile, TT is version 5. I Have not done the TT update yet, as I wanted to sort this out first, if any problems occur with updating I'll never sort it out. Also think maybe its a hardware [PDA or CF] or windows problem maybe.

I use a CF card, and find that you must have the card inserted before you start TT.

Some cards take longer, but IME the displayt will show NO device for upto 2 minutes as TT scans all available ports for GPS devices. Once found, the message should change to "GPS lock was lost x ago".

Also check your TT vesion is 5.21 (if not free update from 5.x at http://www.tomtom.com/support/index....age=1&FID=3361). Earlier versions did have CF card issues IIRC.

Despite two days of messing around it failed to work, NOW (fingers crossed) it is managing to remember the CF card when I power off. Maybe the action of just posting on here has a magic effect <smile>
Just ordered a Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth anyway. The ebay el_cheapo struggled a bit under tree's - even with an external aerial!
Thanks for replying
