Default Activating Tomtom Nav5 onto 2nd device?

Hi,

I am wanting to activate my TT Nav 5 onto a second device as I have both a work and personal PDA, and sometimes I have one and not the other, so cannot use my Tomtom when I need to.

I have found the info pasted below on another website, www.pocketgps.co.uk

Has anyone tried this, and can anyone confirm if this is correct? Ie can you use the same product code to activate the software on a second device as long as 7 days have passed since the first device was activated, (and thereafter it goes up to every 6 months to install onto yet another device).

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks, Paul.

From www.pocketgps.co.uk FAQs

Software Activation - What if I buy a new Pocket PC ?
Your product code can be used to activate TomTom Navigator on a second device. This is, however, ONLY possible 7 days after the first activation. Once you have activated the software on the second device you will need to wait 6 months until the product code can be used again, on a third device. From then onwards your product code can be used on a new device every 6 months.

From what I've read you can do it but there is one snag. The map activation is linked to one device. If you install onto the second one and the first gets a flat battery, you won't be able to re-install. At least that's how I understand it.

Under the licensing terms you cannot use it on 2 devices simultaniously.

Each activation replaces the info TT hold for you, and as such if you use TT plus services, you will only be able to use it with the last activated device. If you try to use the original account it may lock out your entire account and ability to activate in future (device failure or new device) as TT might have protection measures in place.

Thanks for the replies.

But can it be done, ie fully activated on a second device?

To be honest, I don't need to run it on my personal PDA - it is much older and I tend to use my work one 99% of the time (not even sure why I put the TTN5 onto my personal one in the first place!) So if I lose it on the first device, I'm not really bothered, as long as it can be activated on the second one properly? Plus then I'm not breaking license rules etc.

So can it be done for sure?
Thanks!
Paul.

Yes you can do it but will have to re-activate, this will give a different code. If you log on to the TomTom site and select My Products, you will see your Product Code.

If you decide to install onto the second device, you will see the code change.

As I said earlier, should you then have problems with the first device you won't be able to re-install to that one.

You would actually br breaking the licencing laws if you have it installed on two devices at the same time. Whether TomTom, in your circumstances, would be too bothered if they found out, I don't know.
