As predicted I have been unable to get hold of bloody TomTom! I contacted www.totalpda.co.uk support who were very helpful. He directed me to this page;

http://repair.tomtom.com

Fill that out and you can arrange for your faulty unit to be collected at TomTom's expense!!

He said that if your wired receiver has High Sensitivity written underneath it then its an old batch and they have lots of problems with them. Seems mine has packed up good and proper. I just completed the online form and was automatically given an RMA number and a phone number for DHL to collect it.

At least I'm getting somewhere now.

I thought it right of me to post the information I have found since TomTom obviously have a conspiracy to not mention any of these problems on their support site despite it being an extremely wide spread problem.

Hope the above helps some of you out.

Chris

I also have had exactly this problem from day 1. I can constantly get it to work if I start the TomTom program and then slide the Tungsten into the already powered cradle. To be fair to TomTom I e-mailed their support and they very quickly authorised the return of the GPS. I’m not sure however that it is not the cradle. Before I waist my time sending the GPS back I will contact TomTom again for further advice.

OK, curiosity got the better of me and I took a look inside the GPS. It seemed to me that the cable screening should have been in contact with the metal can which houses the GPS, mine was not connected to anything. I pushed the cable screening behind one of the can lugs. Works every time now.

CrisK,

Palm Car GPS Kit (Wired Cradle) Tungsten T5, Nav 5... Np GPS Device

Interesting, I tried to get the case apart but 4 screws on inside cradle not enough to separate. Are there more screws under the black device label? If so I don't think I want to do further damage. Probably going to send this second cradle back to Palm and get my money back. Found that when I plugged in the T5 the leftmost contact tab bent over on itself. Straightened it out and and now get blue light but still no gps device. This is becoming too much of a hassel! Very bad mechanical design by Palm on the Tungsten connector.

Here's a possible solution that works for me - go to T3 prefs, communication, bluetoth, trusted devices and select TomTom Wireless GPS MkII, then done, done, and back to home, open navigator and off you go.
