Default Navigator 5 on to an XDA Orbit

Hello everyone. Newbie alert!

Please forgive me if this has been asked before - I have had a look around the forums but haven't found any info about this particular problem.

I used to happily run Navigator 5 on an iPaq 3970. That PDA finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago and I have replaced it with an XDA Orbit, only wanting to carry one gizmo around from now on. The Orbit runs Windows Mobile 5 rather than the Windows CE of the older PDA.

I would like to use my Navigator software on the new XDA but don't seem to be able to install it, as Setup (from CD) fails with the standard Microsoft 'Setup.exe encountered a problem and needs to close' type error.

I'm aware of the Navigator update to 5.2 available on the Tomtom site, but as I understand it this can only be used on a registered and already installed copy of Navigator. Without being able to install the base 5.0 version, it's not really much help.

I have a 1Gb microSD card in the XDA but never get as far as being able to define the location for the install.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any help will be very gratefully received.

Thanks,

Jon

If you have access to a card reader copy the tomtom folders from your old SD card to your PC and then to new Micro SD card card. It should then install from there and you will be asked to activate the software on the new device. You will need your product code card.

Many thanks indeed for the reply, Martin. May I ask for a quick clarification?

On the old PDA I have my map on the SD card - in a folder called GreatBritain_map. There is also what appears to ne an empty folder named Tomtom. That's all the SD card contains.

All other files are/were on the device itself. I'm unable to access the directory on the old PDA, but from memory there were TomTom files in MyDevice / Programme Files / Navigator - I know one was a data file and another was the programme itself. I think there were also files in a folder called TomTom in My Device root. I also think there were some TomTom files written to the Windows directory as well.

Would I need to copy any / all of these directly to the new microSD card on the XDA? Because if so I'm a bit stuck. The fault with the old PDA unfortunately means that I don't think I'm going to be able to access the files held in its own memory rather than the SD card.

Thanks again for the help.

Jon

The 5.2 update is actually the full TT 5.2 software. Download and install it then use your CD's to install the maps.

The empty folder on the SD card named tomtom is there so the full postcode function works.

Thank you very much for the replies. I've managed to sort it - I managed to coax the old PDA into life just long enough to copy all the TomTom related files onto the SD card and then from there onto the new PDA. App activated fine with my Product Code. Bit of trouble with the voice at first but now that's working as well! Old PDA now binned!

Thanks again!
