HTC Diamond & TomTom Navigator 6 compatibility?

This is a discussion on HTC Diamond & TomTom Navigator 6 compatibility? within the TomTom Navigator forums, part of the TomTom category; I see that www.totalpda.co.uk are selling the two together, suggesting they're compatible: http://www.www.totalpda.co.uk.co.uk/HTC/HTC-...

Default HTC Diamond & TomTom Navigator 6 compatibility?

I see that www.totalpda.co.uk are selling the two together, suggesting they're compatible: http://www.totalpda.co.uk/HTC/HTC-To...ndle.7377.html

I asked the question of TomTom though, and was told they aren't compatible. Apparently the upcoming version of TomTom Navigator 7 will be compatible.

Can anyone confirm either way?

It definately works on the Diamond. Tomtoms compatibility list has never been up to date.

This was the response from TomTom:

"The Touch Diamond will be compatible with TomTom navigator 7 when it is released in the UK. It is not compatible with Navigator 6 unfortuantley. It was designed to be compatible with the new nav 7 which has just been released in Germany and Austria and will go european wide shortly."

I'm not sure what causes them to think it's incompatible, but presumably it's something trivial or perhaps simply they have just can't be bothered to test it.

The last part I would imagine.

I'm sure I saw it was being bundled on an HTC phone by one of the German Telco's. Other than that theres been no other mention of it.

Think it was on Pocketgps last month.

Is there any trick to getting TomTom to spot the internal GPS?

I've tried setting it as external NMEA receiver, pointing to COM4 (which is what is configured under External GPS in settings) and no dice.

I've also tried setting the hardware port to COM0, but TomTom doesn't acknowledge that is created.

I can't see any other configuration options for the GPS, other than QuickGPS.

Some help would be much appreciated!

Make sure your using Navigator 6.3

You should be selecting other nmea wired GPS and then selecting the com port that the GPS is located. Not sure which one it on on the diamond though.

You can tell you have the right one selected as the blue and yellow circle on the GPS status screen starts spinning to show it is looking for satelites. Might take a while the first time

Thanks for the reply.

I rang HTC in the meantime, and despite using 6.010 I was able to connect. HTC advised me to change the GPS's COM port to COM9, although I'm not sure if that helped or not. Along with using the NMEA Wired Receiver, as you state, that seemed to fix it.

I think the time it took to find the first time threw me as well, even with using QuickGPS.

I use NMEA, 57900 baud I think, and com 4 on the Diamond, that works fine with TomTom 6.
