Tomtom one xl navigation pointer change

I have a TT1 xl on which I have downloaded pointer symbols (car x3, motorcycle) which I would like to use. When I select a different pointer it tells me that it has changed but I still get the blue arrowhead. I apologise if this has already been covered but I'm a newbie on here
