Default TomTom One XL, maps not activated ?

We recently purchased a load of TomTom One XLs from HP iPAQ PDA | TomTom GO | TomTom ONE | GPS Sat Nav | Palm Smartphone | Total PDA but found the SDCards they came with to only have 40Mb space space.
Simple enough... copy everything from the origional card to a bigger SD card... or so you'd think.

On boot up it says the map isn't activated but the origional boots up fine.

Any suggestions ?

(Replacement card is a 1Gb SD (mlc) memory card)

We are unable to activate the maps from ttcodes as these TomToms weren't shipped with the product codes required.

Ensure that you are also copying the hidden files too, and that each card is put back in the correct unit.

40MB might not sound alot of space, but is more than adequate for a few voices and POI files, what are you trying to add to the device that needs greater capacity? - Mike

Updates via TomTom Home (2) and our poi collection (42Mb, contains all the power lines, transformers etc in GB).

I've selected it to show all hidden and protected system files.
I've reformatted the new SD card with FAT32 to be the same as the origional.

I've copied direct from the TomTom One XL to the new SD card in my card reader.

I'm at witts end.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thx

Gonna try cloning the Origional SD card to the new larger card with Norton.

Noticed a strange thing... I can use any of the origional tomtom labelled cards in any of the tomtoms without a activation messege but copied versions of the cards wont work in any of them. Is it possible that these tomtom brand cards have cprm protection or something alike ?

If they did, then why do Tomtom have support pages on how to copy the files to a bigger card?

There are some memory cards from TomTom that do indeed lock the map to the card, but these are just map cards and wouldn't work with the XL due it needing the system files and associated support folders.

I very much doubt you have a bunch of locked cards supplied with a pile of devices unless purchased off e-bay per chance? - Mike

The device might be rejecting the card due to its read speed, if its not fast enough the device simply won't boot up - get a faster memory card and try that, the application/ map supplied with a device isn't locked to the SD cards ID and can be copied to other larger cards.

Don't use SDHC type cards as they simply won't work, something like a Sandisk Extreme III will work very well in the TomTom units - Mike
