displaying "No maps found"

My daughters friend has given me her TOMTOM ONE (3rd Edition 1 GB) to sort this problem. Is it possible to connect her unit to my computer as I have a TOMTOM GO, or would that create issues. I have seen the message saying to connect thru a USB, so that will be step one for me. This is my first enquiry, so forgive my rambling.
