Default Connecting to PC and charging

I recently bought an Evesham 7500 TMC Europe (on QVC, I still have the option of sending it back).

It is very obviously from its physical form a Microsoft Pocket PC but one that has been adapted to only do the Sat-Nav functions (plus MP3 and photos, which don’t interest me). This means 2 things:-

Firstly, it connects to the PC via Microsoft Activesync. That’s not the end of the world but I have enough experience with Pocket PCs to know Activesync is not the most reliable piece of software in the world.

Secondly, data is kept in RAM, even when the unit is switched off and this results in the battery charge being lost over a few days. The result of this (confirmed by Evesham) is that favourites, updates etc are lost unless the unit is kept almost constantly on charge. As I want to only use it from time to time (probably not more than every few weeks on average), that is a problem.

So two questions – how does the One connect to the PC and does anyone know if it loses favourites etc if not used (and charged) for a long period of time? At the moment, the One Europe looks favourite as a replacement for the Evesham.

Much obliged for any thoughts

TomTom stores everything on SD card, so you'll be fine even if the battery dies.

It connects to the PC via a mini USB lead, and the PC will see it as a USB mass storage device.
