Default TT One - Please Help Me

Hi Everyone,

I have just taken a delivery of a TomTom one that I bought through Ebay as a xmas gift for my wife. The unit looks as new and I have all the bits in the box including the product code.
I fitted the SD card and the unit worked fine. I then connected it to my PC and all was well here too. I then wanted to see exactly what was installed on the SD card so I plugged into my card reader. It showed various things and said that it was a 256 card and was 190 full. After putting the SD card back into the tom tom, the pc said the unit was disconnected and the TomTom says no card installed!!

When I put the card back in the card reader, it says "Disk not formatted, format now?"

Please help, what do I do now? I have tried contacting the seller but with no joy.

Sounds like you either removed the SD card when the PC was writing to it, or put into the TT with it powered on.

Unless you have a CD with the software and maps (not sure if this comes with it or not as STD), you need to send the mem card to TomTom to fix - unless TT Home has an option when you register it.

Why didn't you browse the TT mem card when it was connected to the PC? It shows up as a mass storage/mem reader and you can see everything on the card without having to take it out of the TT.

You might be lucky and be able to use the smart recovery tool fro www.pcinspector.de, but I think you've likely corrupted the data beyond recovery.

Curiosity, cat etc

Yes curiosity!!! I think you are right, the TT was on when I removed and put back the SD card. As the unit is second hand what can I do? When I press and hold the power button, it takes me to a black screen with system information. It has a Complied At date of July 14th 2006, is that when it was manufactured?

Try the PCinspector link.

If that fails, you need to contact TomTom.

I have downloaded that software you recommended but when I run it, it asks to select file type. Which do I select?

Looks like they've changed it. Copy I had simply recovered everything.

You'll need to cally TomTom. They'll require proof of purchase, so show them your ebay receipt.

Out of interest, anyone know if this was ever resolved? I was told by everyone and his dog the first action I had to take was to back up the disk.

I thought it was a panic measure- but clearly not.
