tomtom problem

I have a new tomtom one the latest version. I bought a tomtom sd card with the us and canada maps. I have made a full backup of my current data to tomtom home. The problem is when I insert the sd card with the us map all I get is the tomtom first screen the one with the hand, nothing else happens when i touch the screen. What am I doing wrong.
