Default Time Remaining to Destination Wildly Inaccurate

Hello,

I am a relatively new owner of a TomTom One. For the price, this unit seems pretty nice and does nearly everything I could ask.

However, I find that the "Time Remaining" to destination is way off. It indicates a time that is way too long. For instance, a 120 mile trip traveling at 60 mph will indicate something close to 4 hours. Sure, it adjusts as you travel but it doesn't ever get to a realistic ETA. Right up until the last mile, it still shows that it will take you one minute longer than it will even though the destination is within a stones throw.

Is this "bug" the same with all units or is mine defective? Or, is there some adjustment or setting that eludes my exploration that will cure this?

I think this would be a useful feature and realize that it is an estimate. However, what is the point of having it at all if it won't utilize the obviously huge, raw computing power to make this terribly simple computation?

Thanks in advance for your kind advice.

The routing weights each road and junction based on factors such as speed, approx waiting time of x seconds at any junction etc to get to the ETA. a 120 mile trip might well take 4 hours - all depends what roads you tell it to take.

You might end up waiting at junctions for example less time than the unit calculated, meaning you arrive with a few minutes to spare.

Pretty much all devices do this, and it's not a bug

Thanks. I sort of surmised most of what you proposed. However, it still seems that much improvement could be made here. I mean, why can't the device compute more in real time based on your speed and miles remaining? If you have been traveling at 70 mph for the last hour, I think the unit should factor this in and adjust the ETA under the assumption that this trip is progressing without interuption. Should you encounter traffic or slow roads, then it should readjust based on the past x minutes of speed/miles traveled. It seems rather simple....

I have TTN5 on my PDA and it certainly does adjust the ETA as I'm driving. The intitial ETA before setting off can be a bit hit and miss but generally not too far out but by the time I've arrived at my destination the ETA is only a minute or two out either side.
