Post New tom tom not working, Please Help

Please help, Have just got a new tom tom europe. Tried to download the free speed cameras and this failed. Unistalled the tom tom one disk from computer and reinstalled.
Now cannot use device at all, computer not picking up device, when turn it on it goes to a screen with a picture of it and a red circle with a white cross in. Have tried to reset this does not seem to work. What do I do, getting very frustrated as not even been out in car with it.

Is it true that I have lost the total memory of the device. I'm totally gutted if this is so but surely there must be some way of restoring this???

Hi, thanks for that, have already called them. Seems our computer is crashing the tomtom. We exchanged the orginal one tried a second and has done the same thing. Not sure what the fault could be on our computer as everything else seems to be working fine.

Second time round even got tomtom help desk to talk me through each step and still crashed the machine. Could'nt even make a back up before starting the process.

What has happened is at some point you've used say a USB flsh drive. When windows asked what to do, you've selected an option such as format, and ticked the box not to ask again (common as people get bored/annoyed with it popping up).

This 'media detection' dialogue is the cause of your problems. You need to reset this so you get asked what to do. When you connect the TomTom
you want to select 'do nothing' and DO NOT tick the never ask me again box
