Default No maps found on TomTom ONE

I am sorry if this question has been asked before but I couldnt find the same problem anywhere:

My father in law's TomTom ONE apparently has lost its maps. When turned on, it says: "no maps found". I havent called TomTom yet but he sent an email and the reply told him to "re-buy" the maps for £70. I find this very hard to believe - surely he should not be paying twice for these maps, EVEN if it was him who deleted them by mistake, which we arent sure about. It has had other problems and it already went back to tomtom for repair once - the damn thing is only 3 or 4 months old!
Has this happened to anyone else? I know there are ways of getting the maps on the internet but...is there any other way?

Thank you all in advance.

You can give them a phone on 08451610009. If he deleted them without backing them up then he will probably have to pay for them. If the unit went faulty and lost them tomtom should replace them.

Many thanks Martin. I gave TomTom a call as suggested and they were quite helpful and relaxed about it. We "concluded" the SD card was corrupted. Hopefully this will be the last time we have to send it back for repair.
