Officially the map data is accurate as of October 2003. Don't let this alarm you though...ordinance survey maps use the same data and are as equally "up to date".

Don't go expecting the only new motorway, M6toll to be on there!

On a connected note, I always remember 'paper maps' featuring roads under construction' with a dotted line to represent the road. This clearly has not been done for Tomtom. Obviously you dont want your software to route you onto a building site, but opening dates are well known in advance and gps positioning would be logged as part of the construction phase so they should be capable of allowing functionality. Their 'official' response from their support email was that they needed to check the mapping once open before they would update the map database. I would personally recommend a flag such as the 'congestion charge' one giving the driver a warning and offering them options but hey-ho is it likely to happen???
