Default Help - which TomTom for USA and UK traffic

I have used a IPAQ PDA based TomTom (Nav 5) for years but its time to change. I do a lot of driving in UK (and some European driving) when I want to have traffic news and I also visit the States on occasions so would also like to have USA maps.

I am a little lost at all the versions around at the moment - the older ones still available, the current models and the new models just being released. I would rather have a free traffic system than one I have to pay a subscription to but what are my choices?

Any help on the different models that may fill this criteria and what the other features are that go with each model so I could make an informed choice would be gratefully received.

I have seen a number of refurbished models on sale. Anyone had experience of these - good or bad??

For a tomtom with the maps you are looking for you'd have to look at one of the 9x series as they have EU and US maps preloaded on them.

You would have to buy a RDS/TMC traffic receiver for them separately as tomtom are focusing on the LIVE models have a monthly subscription that also covers traffic.

At the moment we do the refurbished 910
Buy TomTom GO 910

They are refurbished by tomtom themselves so they are in as new condition with the same garentee as a brand new model. You could easily add a RDS/TMC to one of these to get exactly what you are looking for.

The 950 is the current model.
Buy TomTom GO 950 LIVE 1CP9.011.00
Again you get the RDS/TMC separately for it.

Thanks for the quick response.

I understood that they previously did for example a a TomTom GO 930T - does this have the RDS/TMC built in? Are there other models like this eg 910T, 920T or 940T?

They did but they discontinued the T models to focus on the LIVE series like the 940 and 950.

The T models just came with the RDS/TMC receiver bundled in the box.

All you need to do is buy the RDS/TMC receiver separately.

One other thing to consider with the RDS-TMC receivers, for European units they are free to use for life, for USA based receivers they are subscription based with a 12 monthly charge to make them work, also you cannot use a European receiver in the USA and the USA receivers don't work in Europe - Mike
