Can't install Tom Tom 3

I know this sounds stupid but I can't install Tom Tom 3. I've set the laptop and ipaq up correctly, inserted the CD and it either states that there is unknown arcitecture and stops 30 seconds after starting set-up OR it starts set up, connects to the net and just stays on the screen showing that data is transfering, the last time count for it doing this was 3 hours. But it gets no further? I'm sorry I sound like an idiot but I really need some help!!!!!

It's ok now looked at the link that Madmatt started and took the last piece of advice re taking the PDA out of the cradle and putting it back in whilst installing. I agree that the Tom Tom is difficult to deal with.
