Default Some newbie questions

Hey all

Just aquired a hp1940 with Tomtom3 from an old mate who had his car stolen, so i dont have cradle/gps reciever/etc to go with it. Kinda new to the whole pda thing and a little confused as to what i need to get it up and running again, could someone point me at what i would require for the car and also reccomend what bits to buy?

Many thanks in advance

Mark

Welcome to our forum.
Is it a cabled or Bluetooth receiver you have with the iPAQ.

Hi Charlie, I literally have the PDA and pc associated stuff, the original 'car' related items went walkies with the car. I intend to hardwire the kit to the car so there is no need for bluetooth (i dont think?)

Rgds

With the 1940 you can only use Bluetooth or IR to connect your receiver. Bluetooth is best in my opinion. You'll need a car kit, look @ the one @ http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom-Car...iPAQ-1940.aspx . Then you'll need a receiver, have a look @ http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Leadtek-Bl...M-Version.aspx . You may need a memory card as well depending on which maps you want to use. Then internal iPAQ memory can take a 16MB map with no problems but I'd recommend a 128MB card for the full UK map.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Didnt realise that the 1940 was bluetooth/IR only (new to this pda thing ). As the Bluetooth reciever you have reccomended is 129 and the full tomtom kit is 149 i am thinking that it may well be better for me just to buy the whole kit as the tomtom i have inherited is missing manuals etc.

If i was to buy the full tomtom bluetooth kit and the 1940 cradle (for 149 and 39 respectivly, +vat of course) that would be all i required? Would the bluetooth reciever power from the tomtom car mount?
