TOM TOM 510 GO

HI ,NEW HERE, when i turn my tom tom on it comes up with no maps found ? i went to update my maps from the quarterly service and it couldnt download them as there wasnt sufficient space so thought i would remove some stuff as in "old maps" after doing this it has stored maps on my comp , and when i try to download them from comp it still says insufficient space ,why is that when the maps are on my comp ?? and theres hardly any space used at all with other stuff voices etc, i have tried looking through the forum for answers but its mind boggling and dont really know what im looking for ,is there a way to delete everything then upload it all again ,if so please explain slloowwllyy ,not to clever on these things so may need it in laymans terms , many thanks,

Bruce.

Are you using a PC or MAC, if its a MAC make sure you have emptied the trash from the drive letter associated with the TomTom memory card as macs don't clear data when you delete it unless you take this step - Mike

What is the capacity of the memory card you are using, when supplied as new with the 510 it will have been a 256MB which won't be large enough for the newer maps, your device will accept an SD card up to and including 2GB in capacity, any larger than this and it won't work as the 510 can't support the newer SDHC format the larger capacity cards require - Mike

Connect the device to the PC (or use a card reader) start Windows Explorer and right click the drive letter associated with the TomTom device/ card, from the menu select "Properties" and it will tell you how large the card is and whats currently in use.

Indeed a 2GB card will get around most capacity issues, but if you only use UK&ROI a 512MB card will suffice - Mike

If the "Q paint" files are in the "raster" folder then they can be deleted.
