Question Adding own POI problem

I have set up my own POI category on my TomTom and have happily been storing location as POI's and saving to this specific database. However now when ever I add a POI, select the category and name it TomTom tells me that the location has been stored but when I try to use it the location is no where to be found in the database. I have bags of room on the SD card, I've deleted a few POI categories to see if that was causing the problem but it did not resolve the issue. This specific POI database of mine only has 9 POI's, and I've tied saving them to other databases, but it still doesn't save. I can still save location to my favorites, but this does not allow to categories. Can you help?

This is a POI databse created completely in TomTom on my Palm. My issue is not with importing a database but adding to an existing cutom db

I am having same problem. works ok if i choose a short name, say 6 characters, and always use the same icon, looks a bit like a radiation symbol. Once it is recognised then I can change the icon using windows explorer via my pc. This is doing my head in, spent all moring on it. For instance I cannot add a new poi group for Premier Travel Inn, but can if i called it premtrav? If i copy over my bmp and ov2 files from tomtom they don't work, but I can import them by using poiedit. This is a pain. can anyone help pls???? When I call it Premier Travell Inn it is created on my storage card but tomtom cannot see it?

I have played with this for ages. The problem is that you can only have a set number of poi groups, after that it lets you create a group but it does not show in the list, or let you use it. I am not sure of the number of poi groups allowed but it appears to be about 40? I guess you have added the speed cams, which creates about 30 groups!! Does anyone know a way of increasing the number of available poi groups?
Its early days yet, I may be wrong with this theory but it worked fo me.

Hi GUYS

HAVING PROBLEMS ADDING NEW POI CATEGORIES ON TOMTOM NAVIGATOR 5, WELL WORRY NOT, HERES YOUR SOLUTION.

PROBLEM

Well first of all allowing to simplify your problem, the reason you are not able to add new categories is because tomtom5 only allows 79/80 poi categories and these are pre-installed, therefore there is no room for more categories to be created.

SOLUTION!!

You delete any unwanted categories i.e. Hilton (something I could delete) you delete which ever category(ies) you don’t want

INSTRUCTIONS

Load Tomtom Navigator 5 on your PDA > go into your menu > select 'Change preferences' > then select 'Manage POI' > then select 'Delete POI Catergory' it will then bring a list of POI Categories, click/tap on any category you dont need/want it will then ask you if you are sure you want to delete that category press 'YES'

THIS HAS NOW DELETED A PRELOADED POI CATEGORY AND ALSO MADE SPACE FOR YOU TO CREATE YOUR OWN POI CATEGORY.

TO CREATE YOUR OWN POI CATEGORY - SEE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:

since you have just deleted a category you are in the correct menu page to create/add another POI category, in the top right hand corner in the icon 'add POI category' click this icon > you now need to name your new category, once you have entered the name press done > it will then ask you to select an icon, this is the icon that will be displayed on the map to indicate your new category, click on the icon you wish you use.

AND THEN IT SHOULD CONFIRM THAT YOUR NEW CATEGORY HAS BEEN STORED, NOW ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS CREATE ENTRIES FOR THIS CATEGORY. PRESUMABLY YOU KNOW HOW TO DO THIS, IF NOT DONT WORRY, SIMPLY EMAIL ME:

hope this solves your problem

can i ask which version of tomtom navigator you are using? tomtom nav 2/3 or 5. if its 5 then i think i have the solution for you, please have a look at the answer i've given to waazzzzupmate.

also if you are using tomtom 5 then i suggest you upgrade it to tomtom 5.1 if you are using an pocket pc ( although it will say its only for the HP iPAQ HW 6510/6515 - ignore this as i've loaded it on my ipaq rx3715 and it works fine, however if in doubt contact tomtom)

link for tomtom 5.1
http://tomtom.com/support/rightnow.p...&p_search_text=

on the other hand if your using palm os then you need to update your tomtom to 5.12
link for tomtom 5.12

http://tomtom.com/support/rightnow.p...&p_search_text=

one you've update your tomtom 5 then follow instructions as per mesage to waazzzzupmate.

hope that solve your problem

p.s. i have CheckPOInt 5 loaded on my ipaq, but i strongly feel that it is the cause for me being able to add POI categories.
