Default TomTom Wireless Bluetooth GPS

Hi,

Having read the previous posts I have encountered a variation on the problems described.

Today I switched on my receiver ( TomTom Bluetooth wireless) after a lengthy period. The bluetooth light is continually flashing ( left hand side) but I'm not seeing either a green or red light on the right hand side. This would seem to indicate that I'm not receiving a GPS signal perhaps ? In any case, I'm now unable to switch the damn thing off no matter how long I keep my finger on the button !

I've recharged the unit again ( the red light came on and went off after a few minutes) and have tried to "discover" the device again on both my 3970 and 5550 after having initially removed the existing bonds. In both cases although it finds the device it cannot now bond or retrieve any services. I seem to have no option but to let the receiver discharge and see what happens after recharging.

Is there no other way one can switch the receiver off ? Is this a known problem on this make of receiver ? I'm at my wits end !

I have also installed the latest GPS driver 2.09.

Grateful for any help.

Regards

Abrar Ahmed

Hi Abrar.

I have the same reciever and to switch it off(as per the manual)you must hold the button down until the green light stays on then release it.

Hope this helps.

Steve.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.

Actually, under normal circumstances this would work but on this occasion whenever the green light becomes constant and I take my finger off the switch the bluetooth light starts flashing again.

I've managed to cure the problem only after having left it on until the batteris drained out and recharged again. This is not ideal as the unit is unusable for about 8 hours !

Wish there was a easier way to reset it when it malfunctions.

Regards

Abrar

FYI the lights on the tomtom mean the following:
*flashing blue - searching for T3
*solid blue - communicating with T3 via bluetooth
*no green (right light) - no sattelite coverage
*flashing green - communicating with sattelites
*red light indicates a low battery (and/or charging - have not fully worked out the sequence for this yet)

Isnt it amazing that a company like Tom Tom manufactures a product and we the consumer are are trying to work out how to operate their product! I deduced what has been written above as there were no instructions with my package on the use of the GPS unit. Mine would now appear to have failed completely as I can not get the blue LED to light up at all now, I tried Tom Toms advise to drain the unit completely and then recharge to no avail. In any case , if I have to do this all the time the unit is going to be worse than useless. It has now gone back to Tom Tom for repair/replacement.

I have todate, had three TT BlueTooth which have all failed!

It seems that you have to be real careful when first mounting the device in your vehicle. In the instructions it does say that that you should not start your vehicle with the power plugged in to cigarette lighter as this 'may' cause a surge to the device (or words to that effect)

I have found however that when it worked it was very reliable but I do get really p***ed off when companies use consumers as testbeds for products like this! The times I have had in getting the damn thing to work has racked up in hours.

So yet again, I'm sending the thing back to TT. Now, I have just bought, as I cannot wait for replacement, the LeadTec BlueTooth and WOW! Such a diffirence in performance and life!

Overall though I have to say the software is great although the maps are like, ten years old especialliy if you live in the Midlands i.e. M6 Toll, B'ham Central, Cannock, Wolverhampton etc

Now waiting for TT GO from TotalPADA to see how this performs, the built in gps, they say, lasts just 6 hours on stand alone?!...........No good for camping then?.................Watch this space.......
