Angry TomTom 5.1 crashing

Hi folks.
I have a Axim X50v running TT 5.1. My proplem is that recently I've been able to use TT less and less. I managed to use it as far as Glasgow 4.5hrs before it closed and return me to the start up screen. It' sgradually gotten worse to the point it will only run for about 3 mins before closing. It does this even if I have not planned a route and am just using it as a map reading excercise.
I was advised to make sure the Axim was kept cool, so it's now mounted into the airvent with cold air on continually.
Any ideas gratefully accepted.

Hello

I have had this problem from Day 1, it is incredibly annoying. Sometimes it will work for about 30 mins (from Leicester to Nottingham and back), other times it will crash as soon as the signal has been established.

I have totally ruled out weak signal causing the issue, as I have purchased a GPS cable which connects in to the gold port of the BT GPS Receiver I am using. To be honest it does not even boost the signal. But in trying to figure out this problem I resorted to trying this.

As you can imagine I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and maps on several occasions and also used the simple GB Map (which is around 100Mb less in size than GB Plus - which has a million or so POI's).

The interesting thing is that my SPV-M2000 and BT GPS Receiver seems to work perfectly fine in my friend's Honda Civic. I have a Golf GTi Mk3 and is very intermittent at best, in reality its only worked ok on 3 or 4 occasions the rest of the time it is a bloody nightmare. I have another friend who says that TomTom Mobile 5 works great in his Dihatsu Jeep (spelt wrongly, but who cares) but in his Dad's Mercedes it produces the same problems.

Any ideas would be greatly welcomed?

Hello all

I have had an interesting for this problem that may help and you may have not tried.

Which voice are you using? I have been told by I friend to only install GB Tim voice, if you are using any other then fully hard reset your PDA and re-install TomTom with only this voice.

I was previously using USA Lori voice but have been told this solves the problem, but I am going to test this today on the road. So will report back on here.

I am sure all of you are as fustrated with TomTom Mobile 5 as I am, so this is certainly worth a try.

Following yesterday's test I have found that using Australia Ken voice provides the most stable verion while using and is definitely worth a go to stop or at least help in relation to this problem.
