Angry Route preferences

Can anyone tell me how I can go about telling my TomTom that I would much rather drive along an ‘A’ road with a national speed limit than along a farm track… Although the route planner gets me from A to B it does have a tendency to send me along tiny country tracks instead of main roads. I know with Auto route you can set your preferences but I am struggling to find a way to do it on my 2210 IPAQ with TomTom Navigator. I’ve tried to amend the speed settings for each type of road but all this seems to do is make the route planner take 10minutes to plan a two mile route.. Help..!!

The strange thing is that I tend to have the opposite problem. TomTom sends me on a longer route via an 'A' road or motorway, when I could chop 10 minutes off a journey by taking a short cut down a 'B' road or unlisted road!

I think it all comes down to the algoritham that TomTom uses, and this all relates to the speed it expects you to do on certain roads.

I think it would help if there was someway to enter the speeds you expect to do on different roads. For example, some people do 60mph on a motorway, whilst others do 90mph. This is obviously going to have an effect on which route would be the fastest for that particular person.

I'd also like to see a fastest / shortest route option. During rush hours (when everywhere is congested) I find that the shortest route is usually the quickest. When I asked TomTom about this, they said that in their experience having a shortest route option wasn't of much use...
