red light on TomTom bluetooth receiver

For ten days now, the bluetooth GPS receiver appear to lock up after a period of usage. This manifests as red light on brightly, and on-off switch not functioning.

It does not appear to happen if the receiver is running on battery power - only if it is being powered from the cradle.

TomTom support site says drain the battery and re-charge - but I can't keep doing that

It just needs a good charge! I often drain the battey through use (buggered when that happens!) and the red light comes on and stays on! I've found that if you stick it on charge and give it some time you can go back to it and switch it on/off and the red light will go off! I assumed it was just its way of saying charge me?!
