Question TomTom GPS Unit

Recently whilst using TomTom it dropped the signal and although I managed to get it back again shortly afterwards it dropped the signal again....since then I have been unable to get the Blue light flashing the GPS unit is on its way back to TomTom but has anyone else experienced this problem...

Its not too clever when your'e in the middle of nowhere...and my wife keeps nagging to ensure we have a map in the car....what for I say when I have this Sat Nav....but I suppose she has a point after the above experience.

Bluetooth's a great idea but if u want reliability and your only going to use the system in the car, then id go for a cabled GPS receiver.
I cant comment on the tomtom receiver as i use the Emtac myself!

i have the cabled gps receiver but like yourselves im having problems as the male and female connections have become very slack and this causes me to lose my rolling map until i touch the connection which in turn re-activates the navigator and picks up from the present position that im at?
so i just dont know what to have replaced either the male that goes to the flashing gps or the female thats built into the pda?
sorry about this just a fault i have stumbled across gonna see if anyone else suffers the same!!!

I am also having problems with my cabled gps reciever. As tjays has said you loose the map and the pda dosent know where it is till you give it a little wiggle. I have the h5550 and running tomtom 2 but i have noticed that I was sent a connection cable with a sticker on it saying its for the Ipaq 3800 series! As it worked okay from the very start I didnt dispute it with total PDA. But after some use now, Im beginning to wonder if it is the correct connector?

Eagle,
You definately have the right connection - the ipaq 38/39/54/55/22 etc all have the same connection pin at the base of the ipaq. Unfortunately there is not a moulded car kit designed for the 5550 by tomtom so you do have to rely on the delicate connection pin. Check out this new mount we have in stock - http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Carcomm-Po...-39-54-55.aspx
Within the next few weeks we will have adapters that will allow your tomtom receiver to be plugged into this moulded mount. This would solve the issue as your pda would sit neatly into the mount and doesn't need the delicate connector!

I have Ipaq 3850 yes i know an early on but it works great.I also have moulded type holder and power cable that keeps in situ as well as powers my device.Connection always is good only wish sattelites were just as reliable (i'm putting that right at mo with re-radiating antenna as well)and apart from that everything works well for me and i use my gps every day for work proffesionally (Courier -work all over the country)
