Default HP5550 & Tom Tom Bluetooth

I bought the above last week and I am still having problems getting a GPS signal to my 5550. I have paired both the iPAQ and the bluetooth receiver and have set the GPS page to Tom Tom Wireless GPS on serial port 1 but no luck. The blue light on the receiver is flashing, however.
Should I have this setting on Bluetooth com port 5...or 8? I know that it doesn't help that I am trying it in the middle of Manhattan but being sure that the settings are correct would be a good start.
Would really appreciate some help.
Thanks,
Scott
PS apologies if the above settings are not worded accurately but my iPAQ ran out of power and despite sitting in the cradle which is plugged into the mains, I still cannot get it to open. This is all getting very frustrating!

I have the same config as you - you need to set the GPS module to use Bluetooth Com Port 8 and it should work fine.

Default Power Problem

Re Power Problem

Very important not to let the unit totally discharge as it is painful to get it back up on line. The method below should work.

Remove the unit from its cradle and plug in using the small adaptor using the power cable from the back of the cradle. Do a soft reboot (Small hole on bottom of the unit - this is why you cannot use the cradle as it obscures the hole) using the stylus.

Wait - at least an 4 hours for the reserve battery to charge and then for the main battery to charge.

Painful but it should work - The info came from the UK support number based in Ireland.

Hopefully I have remembered everything. I was also advised to update the firmware to the latest version which should resolve this problem. If you are from the UK reset the IPAQ to US settings otherwise the upgrade will not work.

Generally happy with the performance of TOMTOM unit but on to my third........ All previous units having been sent back with complete failure.

Thumbs down Navigator BT

I just want to say that I have had the Tomtom Bluetooth for a shade over a year. It just decided to conk out a month ago while I was driving. I tried the discharge/charge routine, hard reset of my iPAQ 5550, re-install of Navigator 3. No joy!

From some other fora, I got the impression that there is a 2yr warranty and that Tomtom would replace the receiver with a new Sirf receiver. It was hard enough finding the email link on the support site. My email hasn't been replied to yet and it is over a couple of weeks. A friend of mine managed to get me the no. for support. Guess what! For 5 days, no que system on the phone. Just a mesage to call back later. Finally, yesterday, I managed to get a queue and then an adviser.

I was informed that since I was in the UK, the warranty was just for a year. I would have to pay a sum of 50 euro to get it repaired/replaced with a refurbished unit. Upon asking, I was told that the replacement would not be the new Sirf unit, which apparently has less tolerance.

The icing on the cake? When I informed the the lady I spoke to that I had found numerous instances on discussion boards of the bluetooth receivers having unacceptable failure rates, I was very told in a very patronising way, `It is an electronic device and you've had it for over a year, and a small no. of electronics devices may develop faults at some point.'

It was nice to know that Tomtom has such confidence in it's products and in electronic devices in general!

I've recently started another thread on this subject - any experiences of failure which TomTom don't want to recognise would be good as I've had the same unhelpful 50 Euro and we'll send you a new one approach.

I've asked them what is wrong with the old one and they on't reply which adds to my suspicion tat it's a recurring fault which they don't want to admit . . . .

Angry Name of thread?

Hi Red Bull,

Could you tell me the name of your forum so I could post my rant there as well? Any chance of getting the trading standards agency involved in some way? I have not sent my unit over yet, as I feel cheated. I was thinking of buying a Tomtom Go300 unit, or even moving to another brand. Tomtom don't seem to be doing much to increase customer trust in their products.

Regards,
DJt@lis
