Default Tomtom 910 - no GPS signal.

My dad recently bought a 910, and had a problem when he first received it, in that the unit failed to get a gps signal. After a couple of hours and a reset it worked fine.

He hasn't used it for a couple of days, and now it won't get a fix again, even after a reset. He has downloaded the latest application via 'home' but still no joy. Once the unit is powered on, it just sits there, scanning for different satelites. Even with several listed, none of them 'turn blue' and no fix is ever obtained. We left it like this for 45 mins, but still nothing.

Anyone any ideas?

Welcome to our forums.
Are you trying inside a building/vehicle or outside?

Thanks.

We have been trying outside, but I've now put it in the upstairs window. To be honest, it's behaving exactly the same, although the signal strength for each satellite is slightly less.

If they go faulty they usually just stop picking up anything so its strange that you are getting something. Call TomTom on 0845 161 0009.

Thanks for that. Just spoken to them, not very helpful really, just told me to perform a soft reset and reset to factory settings and leave it for 45 mins. If this doesn't work it will have to go back. One intersting thing, she asked whether the yellow and blue circle was going round, which it is. She said this means the hardware is working ok.
