Upgrade woes I bought a TomTom Rider, which I opened yesterday. I unpacked everything with so much glee you'd have thought it was my birthday. Well, actually it was my birthday and the Rider was a present from my kids.
Anyway, I got it all set up and all the Bluetooth connections made and all seemed to be going swimmingly.
I checked the TomTom web site for accessories last night and found that there was an application version upgrade available, moving from 5.xx to 6.150.
I downloaded and installed the latest TomTom Home software (version 1.3 build 200) on my PC (running Windows XP Pro), then tried to install application version 6.150 on my TomTom Pilot.
It asked me to make a back up, to which I said yes, then went to make a cup of tea. Came back and it asked me if I wanted to continue the install and I again said yes. It appears that it firstly deleted the old operating system files, then "unpacked" the files to install the new application software but then it stopped almost immediately with the message "Could not open the destination file "H:\data.chk" for writing". Repeated attempts to load the new version application software give the same error message.
The TomTom Home software shows no files on the TomTom Rider, although there were previously several including maps, the speed camera database and half a dozen voice files.
The most annoying thing is that the back up I thought I'd taken seems to have failed. The back up file is only taking 1kb of space and it won't restore.
Checking the memory card with a separate card reader suggests there are no files on the card, although something over 100mb of the space on the card is showing as being used.
When I disconnect the unit , the display on the TomTom Rider shows a graphic of the SD card being removed and a big red cross appearing on it, as if it thinks that the card is not a TomTom original, which it is.
Please help the kids are in tears as their birthday present isn't working. |
