Default New rom update for HP2210

I am about to get the new version of Tom Tom direct from Tom Tom for free, after using version 2 for a few months but I have just found out on this forum that there is a new ROM Update from HP for the HP2210.

On the HP web site it mentions that this Rom update will erase all data on the PDA.

As I dont want to lose any information can I simply just make a backup using the backup prog on the PDA to a SD card then once the Rom update is completed run the backup program again to restore my data.

Also I brought the PDA with Tom Tom already installed and as the original CD were damaged I cannot reinstall Tom Tom version 2, will the Tom Tom upgrade be a new program or do I need to have version 2 installed first to upgrade to version 3

thanks in advance

You cannot backup and restore after ROM update as it simply wont work due to it being a different operating system on the PDA.
