| | out of date maps How are tom tom getting away with selling systems with out of date maps,
I have just been informed by tom tom customer service that the map I have are 2years out of date even though I've only had it 5 months.
They are trying to charge me 49 euro's to update the maps??????????
Surely this is against trading laws under the sales of goods act.
Fit for purpose.
I would be interested in anyone else who hads had the same problem.

| | Thanks for that getsurfers, interesting reading.
My biggest gripe is the mass errors in the maps and postcodeing software.
I live in nowhere in england my house does not exist, but it has been here for 14 years????????. how out of date??????
my local motorway has entree and exits that dont exist, but TT send me to them every time. the motorway has been there for 30years as fare as i am aware.
how fare out of date???????
So the maps and postcodes were not correct from the outset, so if there are updates and new maps , these should be free, and I here, what others say, that its not TT fault its Atlases, rubbish TT sold it to me 5 months ago, for £200. not atlas.
if TT have a problem with the maps they buy. its there problem not mine I'm TT customer. TT are atlases customer not mine.
If we all accept the pass the buck reasoning, that most of the post I read seem to advocate, then its our own fault for accepting it. I will never accept thats it ok to charge for there maps knowing they are 2 years out of date.
and the person who suggestion to pay £10 for updates, Get Real, get the service right first, then charge the £20 a year for updates or £1.50 a month if they need to be corrected more often. TT is not running at a loss, it is making millions of proffit at my and your expence. |

| | LOL, the £10 idea was mine.
It was an idea for changes (ie new roads etc), not foul ups by TT
If you haven't already, I'd post at PGPSW your views. Many there seem to be happy to accept that they've forked out for TT6, and it's missing roads from 15+ months ago!

Maybe it's a personal DOH, rather than me personally

| | I am using tomtom v6 with the europe map version 660.1256, so far it is the first map that has new bypasses by me and roads that was not in v5.
We must remember that all sat nav maps are never totally upto date, and i believe tomtom is by far the best one going at the moment, v6 anyway, and i have tried nearly all others.
The only other one that comes close is igo, but its still not as easy to use as tomtom.
Everyone has a problem with the software there using be it tomtom, navigon, destinator etc just look at the forums on pgpsw for each device and you will see.
In my view with all the support for POI's and add ons for tomtom on the interweb it is the best. |

| | But that does not excuse the fact that they are selling them knowing there out of date,
They should sell them with the right info, or dont sell them at all, or allow them to be put right free of charge. |

| | I believe when you buy tomtom you get a promotion code, i think this gives you one free map update, which isnt bad really. I think if you buy it as a download the maps should be the latest available, if there not then i would definetly complain.
But if there bought out of a shop or online retailer you dont know how long its been there and what versions they have. I think if i was going to buy tomtom i would definetly buy it directly from them as a download.
Where did you buy the tomtom from 5 months ago pitbull?
and which version?
and where from?
I would hope anyone buying from tomtom would have the very latest maps available at that time. If not then i would agree wih you all. |

Personally I'm coming to thing that TT et al really need to thing about rolling sub updates. So you buy TT6, then for an extra say £10/month you are guarenteed to get updates as they are released.
Yes people will complain at this, but lets face it most sat-nav users are heavy users driving everyday and using their systems almost constantly. Not simply picked one up in Haldofs cos it was on special
Come on TT, sort it out! I though that was the whole point of the PLUS services......
