The Mitac, is it Tom Tom, Navman or another brand, it normally is Serail cable Com 1 for tom tom and Com 1 for navman.

On the GPS Status page you should have TomTom Navigator GPS in the top box and Serial Cable Com 1 in the bottom box then tap the box to the left to put a tick in it.

I have a very simular problem
Just to advise of my situation

I have a Mitac Mio 338 pocket PC, running windows version 3.0.11171 (build 11178). Processor Intel PXA250, 36.45 Mb

I have Tom Tom Navigator 3 (wired version, into the car power supply)

I have installed all software onto the pocket pc.activated the software. Everything works fine, I can see maps, plan routes see the demo all with no problem.

The problem is that when connected in the car, and I have even put the receiver on the outside of the car on the roof. but it will not search for any signal at all. the power light on the connector to the car power supply is on and is charging the pocket pc. the green light is flashing on the receiver aswell. the connector from the wired bits and pieces that connects to the pocket pc is labeled for IC-IPQ38-GRS X0100310 for iPAC 38XX/39XX **00H5 is this the problem? I assumed not as it is charging the pc and receiver green light is flashing?

In the GPS screen on the pocket pc I have changed the settings from
Tom Tom Navigator
Serial cable on SP2
to
Tom Tom Navigator
Serial cable on COM1
and com 3

not even any sign of life between satellite icon and the pocket pc icon.

I have even uploaded both the updates from ver 3.03 to 3.07 and nothing helps.
Hoping that you can assist

Default mio gps settings

I have a mio 168 and i suggest u try the following:

programs
tomtom gps
not status but GPS
uncheck box on top left of screen
under drop down menu on top right scroll to nmea 0183v2 4800
under drop down menu immediately underneath scroll to serial cable on sp2
check box on top left
put back in car window allow up to 45 mins & should work (usually its a lot quicker......let me know how u get on
