Default advanced planning feature

Hi, have recently bought tomtom one v2. I have a question re: how to plan/or at least review a route before hand. I have used the advanced planning option to track a walking route through two points in London. Trouble is I live in Manchester and the device insists on replotting plotting a route all the way from mcr by motorway Obviously, I could simply wait till I get to London and set off on my route - but advanced planning should surely offer just that! Thanks in the hope of some advice.

Welcome to our forums.

If it replots the same route through Advanced Planning A -> B then select the Clear Route option and you will be able to plan a new one.

You could save your two points as favourites and when in London Navigate Favourite A to Favourite B.

Or maybe set an Itinerary from Home to Point A and then Point B.

Make sure both A and B are set as Destinations not Waypoints, or you could, if not familiar with an area, drive past the Waypoint without knowing as no warning given of arrival or passing.

Am I right in thinking you cannot plan an itinerary in advance with Tomtom Navigator 6 unless TomTom has a position on the map in question.

I have not yet found a way of planning AND displaying in advance routes with multiple waypoints on a different map to where you are. We want to prepare for a visit to the USA later in the year.

Unless someone out there knows better, please??

You can plan and save as many itineraries as you wish, the only problem is you have to have a fix.

I seem remember someone saying you could, for example, set a route from x to y, in Advance Planning, then start Show Route Demo. Let it run for a short while and then stop it. Apparently your last position in Demo mode is remembered and you can then use Advance Planning from x to y and Demo mode will work.

I never had reason to try it so I could be wrong, but it's worth a try.

In TT Navigator 6 you can use 'Itinerary Planning' without a fix but you can't plot or view the route on the map. You can add destinations and waypoints; you can save and load these but can't check them on the TomTom map. (Well, you can 'Advance Plan' a route with a maximum of ONE waypoint: and then view that route/itinerary, but no more than one waypoint). I think this is a huge omission. On my old (non-TomTom) Pocket Navigator 6 it was simple. Chose a place or point on map or POI etc. Select it as Departure Point, Waypoint or Destination. Continue adding Waypoints. Change destination or departure or whatever. Then 'Find Route', which would be displayed on the map and presented as a proper itinerary. Based on this you could adjust your waypoints to your heart's content.

I did read that in TT Navigator 5.2 you could do what you say:- plot a route with 'Advanced Planning', start and stop the demo; then the route would appear in 'Itinerary Planning'. Not so in my copy of TT Navigator 6.
