Unhappy Bluetooth Connection Lost on Palm T3

I bought my palm T3 and TomTom bluetooth gps from total pda last week. Quite often I am finding that I need to do a soft reset to get my palm T3 to see the bluetooth gps unit. Once that is done I can enter/exit the application, switch the palm on/off/on, and it will find the gps unit normally. After a period of time using the palm for other things, maybe leaving it overnight, I then have to soft reset again to see the gps unit.

The palm bluetooth is set to on/connectable/discoverable, and the gps unit is always in my trusted list (listed second after my T610).

Anybody have any suggestions?

Make sure that the TomTom splash screen has gone and the map is displayed before you turn on the GPS receiver. I find that there is only a 50/50 chance of getting a connection if I don't wait. If I wait it never fails.

When you turn off, shut down TomTOm and then turn off the receiver.

I forgot to say that you also need to install the 4.1 update from the TomTom website because it includes an update for the GPS driver.

Thanks for the advice. I have updated to 4.1, and installed the full screen patch. I have been switching the gps unit on first and then the palm. Most times it connects, sometimes it dosn't. I'll try it the other way round.

I got a reply from Tom Tom. They suggested this procedure:
1 Soft Reset
2 Delete TT3 gps from trusted list
3 Soft Reset
4 Turn on gps unit and add to trusted list

I used to have that same problem and, after chatting to TomTom tech support, solved it by doing this:

They also sent me these instructions which may help you. At least it means the T3 will manually check for the GPS each time - I think so anwyays.

1. Go to the application screen on your T3 and select ‘Prefs => Bluetooth’
2. Make sure Bluetooth is ‘ON’ and the battery of the T3 is charged. (if not charged it is not possible to use Bluetooth)
3. Go to ‘Trusted Devices’
4. If already in the list of Trusted Devices, delete ‘TomTom Wireless GPS’
5. Go to ‘Add Device’
6. Make sure it says: ‘Show: Current Discovery’
7. Turn on the TomTom Wireless GPS receiver and wait until it is recognized by the T3
8. When shown select ‘TomTom Wireless GPS’ in the list and press ‘OK’
9. When connected, type in the passkey ‘0000’ (4 times zero) and press ‘OK’
10. Start up TomTom Navigator
11. Tap the screen to get to the Navigator-Menu
12. Select ‘Show status’ and then ‘Satellites’ in the top right corner of your screen.
13. Select ‘Configure’ select ‘Other Bluetooth GPS’ and press ‘Done’
14. Make sure it says: ‘Show: Current Discovery’
15. Select again ‘TomTom Wireless GPS’ in the list and press ‘OK’
16. Connection will now be established between the two devices.

You will now see a list of all Bluetooth devices around each time you start TomTom Navigator. In order to manually establish a connection to your GPS receiver, you just select ‘TomTom Wireless GPS’ from the list and press ‘OK’. Immediately a connection will be established to the receiver.

It's kinda hyperluting but does work well for me

For Everyones Info the lights on the tomtom mean the following:
*flashing blue - searching for T3
*solid blue - communicating with T3 via bluetooth
*no green (right light) - no sattelite coverage
*flashing green - communicating with sattelites
*red light indicates a low battery (and/or charging - have not fully worked out the sequence for this yet)

I have never managed to get the full screen working despite installing the patches, anyone got any suggestions on this one?!!

Thanks!

Would have been nice for TomTom to have explained all this in the manual but hey, never the mind.
