Default Please advise - I've just ordered a HTC X7500 Ultra-Mobile PC But...

Hello

I've just ordered this flashy item but people have quickly told me it's not what I should have bought.

I mainly want the item for word documents. I'm going abroad and I want something very small to write word documents with (I'm script writing). I also want something with entertainment (can you play videos, can you play pocket PC games?).
Also the internet and even mobile phone options would be great.

As script writing is the main thing, which I have a program that's an extension to Windows word, is this possible to install and use on this device?

People have told me that I should either buy a laptop (but I think it's way too big - I want something practically pocket size) or I should get a top of the range PDA instead?

Please, can someone give me some advice?

You cannot install PC applications on a PDA/smartphone.

So your scripting application/writing isnt going to happen UNLESS you can find a Windows Mobile application for script writing.

There may well be one, but none spring to mind.

All I can suggest is looking on google > http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...G=Search&meta=

You can try a Ultra Mobile PC, but it will not have gsm support and probably not all programms will work. However you can go to a storeand to ask the sellers.

Could you not use the pda to create the script then tranfer it a pc and use the word extensions to format the doc?

No phone option but you could check out Mio P350 or P550. For word documents you could use the inbuilt Word Mobile where you can save your doc and transfer to PC.

You have a few choices of entering text on screen. Using the on screen keyboard, the letter recogniser, or my preference, the Transcriber, where you can use the stylus to write on screen and text appears, you can enter word by word or whole sentences. It takes a little practice but there is an option to 'match' your writing style. I don't worry too much about the odd spelling mistakes which appear, maybe a 1 instead of a I, because once transferred to PC I use the Spelling and Grammar checker to correct any errors.

The Mio's have built in GPS, so should you go down that route at a later date all you'd need is mapping. I use iGO Myway 2006+ which I find works better than when I had TomTom 5.

Also worth a look is the Mio A701 which is a GPS PDA Phone.
