Default Bluetooth Woes

Forgive me as im a newbie to bluetooth, i cant get my ipaq 2210 to activ synch with my pc. i can get it to transfer files to & from my pc using file transfer so i know the blutooth is working. When i click on my blutooth places on comp this window is blank (should it be) i click on devices in range on left & this shows my ipaq up, it has a tick on it to show it is paired ok. Step 1 in connection wizard on ipaq says get the comm port being used, my comp, shows bluetooth communications port is com4 step 2 says open activ synch on comp in connection settings, enable allow serial cable, which i have done, then in drop down box by this, select com port i select port com4 just under this it says com port is not available. I have tried just about everything i know which in blutooth terms is not alot anybody any ideas please pretty please.
