Default Help please - newbie to WiFi

I have a new HP iPAQ 4150 model which has built in WiFi.

I also have a D-Link DWL-7000AP access point. (Supports 11b/11g/11a)

I want to set up the two to work together.
Unfortunately I don't have any other wi-fi enabled device to test with.

I have given my laptop a IP address of 157.247.229.8.
The D-Link has a IP address of 157.247.229.18.
They are both connected together via a hub.

I have set up open access on the D-Link and switched of WEP.

My 4150 refuses to find any networks.

I have tried giving the 4150 a static IP address of 157.247.229.19 but it still can's see any WiFi networks.

Where do I start on diagnosing this ?

Eventually I will move the D-Link to work so that I can rove around the building and use my 4150.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

First things first. At home you should be using the ip range 10.x.x.x or 192.x.x.x. These are reserved addresses for private use.

When you say "My 4150 refuses to find any networks." do you get the two solid arrows ? or do you not even get network found at all ?

We have to establish if the IPAQ is talking to the access point first before we sort the IP.

Paul

Go to this site and install this. This will allow you to scan for wireless networks. This might let you know if your PDA can pick your network up...
