Default Wifi problems

Hello, I've just got my Dell axim x30 a week ago but i'm unable to connect it to my laptop using wifi via an ad hoc connection. I set up the connection on the laptop using the windows SP2 wireless utilities and then enable the card so it starts transmitting. When I open the PDA, it detects the network fine and asks whether i want to connect to it with "the internet" or "work". I've tried both but it won't connect. I've tried fiddling arround with the sttings on the laptop so i'v tried shared, WPA-None, WEP, disabled etc but it still won't connect. The icon at the top tells me that i am connected to either work or the internet and when i go to connections in settings, it tells me that the network is available rather than connected. I've also fiddled arround with settings on the PDA. What settings should i be using and how can i get them connected?

Hi, I am glad to find it is not just me. OK, I have had the WiFi link working almost the same as you - connected but not going anywhere. I think that the 'Sharing' on the host computer has to be set and then using explorer on the PDA, you browse for the shared folder. I have got that working lap top to PDA. Now, come accessing the internet, I have made this work only once via a friends WiFi router, but how now escapes me! Do you still need to dial up your ISP?
I feel that I am very close and feel a little silly that I cannot figure it out.
