Ok I have an XDA and have done for over a year when it all worked as it should...
I accedently did a reset on it so need to reconfigure it all... ok not a biggie or so I thought....
background....
I use my xda as a pocket PC... ie I don't really have a normal pc... it doesn't sync via usb or any of that... my mail syncs via active sync over https to one of my exchange servers and if i need to get files on it I access on of my servers via unc path via wireless connection at home.....
or ay least thats how it used to be....
ok so I attempt to setup my mail and resync over https... pocket doesn't trust my root CA cert... opps forgot that... so I just connect to my wireless network and go file explorer (looking for tools to fix certificate problem) and type open
\\<ipaddress>\phone
cannot find server type errors...
check DHCP server... has handed ip address out to phone...
server can ping phone... so network is there...
i fiddle about with various settings now when i open unc path in file explorer it starts to dial GPRS.... what gives.... WLAN is connected and on same subnet as server i am tring to access....
it seems there are 2 'networks' you can connect to... the internet and work...
what exactly are these networks...?????
to my mind (as an IT consultant) a network is a network and you will gain access to resources as attached to that network and as network admins see fit... so I really struggle to see the pocket PC/XDAs defiention of these networks to mean anything at all.. however they seem fundemental in getting the thing to work... grumble.. so be it....
my server ip address from the internal wireless network is on a private IP so I can't see how anybodies definition of this may come under the banner of internet as the GPRS dialer seems to think it must be as it attempts to auto dial.... anyways I'm ranting on now....
basic premise of question...
how on earth do I access a unc path over the wireless network on my XDA?
this used to be easy... I just don't understand.....
