Wifi will not connect to my network

I have an hp2210 with an agere internet card
when i try to connect to my network, it wil lnot conenct: it goes from "Available - to - connecting - back to available"
i accidently presed another network, and that connected!, so why wont it work on mine?
could it be because the card (i think) is an 802.11b (11mb/s) and the transmitter is an 802.11g?
